Operational Decision Support System

Within Baltic MUPPETS Tartu University has developed maps for area planning and site selection of new mussel farms.

These maps are integrated in the digital Operational Decision Support System (ODSS), hosted by BlueBioSites.

This tool enables planning and understanding the potential impact of mussel farms, such as the nutrient removal potential depending on the location. As mussel growth differs in the Baltic Sea, the nutrient removal looks different in different places. Also, depending on what other human activities are in the area this can impact e.g. permit processes and suitability of a mussel farm.

Understand the effect of a planned farm in a specific location, and plan strategically! What other activities do you need to consider, and what is the efficiency of the farm?
